About Courtney Lynn Coleman

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t creating. Art for me has always been a language in which I interact with the world. A language that touches deeper than words alone can. I really care about creating and gifting experiences to others. A lot of my work draws inspiration from my love for others, story, poetry, and nature. My spirituality is a huge base for my work. The thing that draws me to making art is my connection to a deep spiritual life and belief in God as Creator. I often feel to create is to let my interior life take breath. Creating is a heartbeat of my soul and spirit.

I work in all sorts of mediums. Whatever best suits the project. While much of my practice has been clay and ceramics, I love making with just about anything I can get my hands on. I think play is such a key component of emotional and spiritual health, even as adults, and so a lot of my work deals with simply playing with materials and seeing what they can do.

Courtney Coleman lives in Chicago with her two cats. Often found drinking coffee and gardening. She loves hosting dinners, reading, and playing outside. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied ceramics and sculpture.
